The Johnson Center has many great features and one of it’s greatest features it offers to students are their group fitness classes. The group fitness classes range from yoga, to spinning to TRX body weight residence classes. The Johnson Center is run mainly by University of Kentucky students and so are the fitness classes. Monday through Thursday fitness classes run from six thirty am to 9 pm and on the weekends classes vary depending on the day. A popular group fitness class, especially among girls, is cycling class. It’s an hour long class of stationary bike class in the cycling room that includes approximately thirty five stationary bikes as well as black lights and a state of the art speaker system. I had the pleasure of attending a cycling class recently and realized that it is much more cardio intensive then I thought. The bike has tension adjustments that are turned up through out the class to make it more challenging. Within the first ten minutes I was exhausted, and was completely out of breathe at the end of the hour but it was a great workout. I had savannah as my cycling instructor and she was very encouraging through out the whole experience. I would recommend the class to anyone looking for a cardio intensive workout. For those who aren’t looking for a cardio intensive workout, the Johnson Center offers yoga, Pilates and even a twenty minute “core blast” abdominal workout class. If you enjoy working out in a group setting, I guarantee there is a class at the Johnson center for you.
